The wolf is a protected species in Sweden
When the wolf of peace called for in Sweden, as late as 1966, there were only a few animals, probably fewer than 10, left. After a tentative start in the 1980s, the wolf in Scandinavia started to regain their old hunting grounds.

A major setback for the wolf in Sweden when the government in January 2010 gave the green light for license hunting of the species.

The wolf's chances of survival today depends on our people want to share living space and forest prey.

Skyddsjakt
As shown by hunting Regulation, four reasons and the three conditions be met for culling should be allowed.

Reason:
– The interests of public health and safety, or for other imperative reasons of overriding public interest, including those of a social or economic nature and significant positive impact on the environment.

– For the sake of flight safety.

– To prevent serious injury, in particular to crops, cattle, forest, fishing, Water or other property.

– To protect wild animals or plants or conserve habitats for plants or animals.

Conditions:
– One of the four reasons to exist.

– Protection Hunting must not hinder the maintenance of a favorable conservation status for the current species' populations in their natural range.

– There must be no other satisfactory solution that solves the need for culling.

Incremental evaluation of culling:
A stepwise assessment of the need for culling makes it easier to see if all the conditions are met. As for an application concerning a serious injury may be a gradual assessment, for example, look like this:

1. Is it likely that serious damage will occur or worsen under current conditions?
Response: No – application is rejected
Response: And – to step 2

2. Hampers protection hunt maintaining a favorable conservation status of the species in its natural range?
Response: And – application is rejected
Response: No – to step 3

3. Is there another satisfactory solution?
Response: And – application is rejected
Response: No – culling may be granted
