Sweden has for many years been criticized by the EU for its wolf policy and recurring license hunting. Now the European Commission in a new proposal to change how member states implement EU:legislation for the management of large predators such as wolves, lynx and bear.

Among other things, proposed that the wolf population should be assessed locally and regionally, and not at the national level, which can increase spread of the wolf. Consideration should also no longer be given to people living near the turf and hit the wolf.
