Six years after the tragic accident killed the last wolves from Kolmarden Zoo. “It is for animal welfare”, says animal manager Filip Johansson.

- Mainly, it's about the wolves we have left have become old and begin to have health problems. It's like when a family decides to kill a dog, it's hard but you do not want the animal to suffer more, says Filip Johansson.

If the decision anything to do with the tragic fatal accident?

- It has nothing to do with it. Indirectly, however, resulted in the accident that we changed our approach and therefore the plant is no longer appropriate for how we work today.

It was in June 2012 as a female animal keeper found dead in the wolf enclosure after being attacked. 2016 > the verdict against Kolmarden Zoo and the then Zoologiske manager Mats Höggren. The zoo was ordered to pay a fine of 3,5 million and the manager got a suspended sentence for manslaughter.
