EU Member States will in future be able to pay full compensation for all costs farmers face when predators attack. Dissatisfaction in southern European countries is believed to be behind the decision.

Thursday's statement from the European Commission came as a surprise to both the LRF as the Environmental Protection Agency and Viltskadecenter.

It boils down to all the damage that protected fish predators on livestock should be fully compensated with money from the Rural Development Program. This also applies to indirect costs for veterinary, disposal and own work and acquiring predator fences or guard dog.

Do mitigate conflicts

"Today's decision aims to increase aid to farmers in areas where large carnivores", writes the European Commission on its website.
